Georgetown:
Edwin Lavalle Rogerson, Sr., 98, husband of Adell Cooper Rogerson departed this life Monday, February 2, 2009 at Tidelands Community Hospice House.
The son of William Humphrey and Margaret Rhodes Rogerson, he was born in Georgetown and resided here his entire life. Lavalle was a member of the U. S. Naval Reserves and the U. S. Coast Guard and served his country during World War II. When the war ended, he returned to work at International Paper Company, where he was employed for 34 years. He retired in 1972 as a beater room foreman.
He was a longtime member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, but later moved his membership to Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church, when he and Adell relocated to the Kensington subdivision of Georgetown. Lavalle enjoyed the outdoors, and when time allowed, he loved to go fishing or hunting, but mostly he liked spending time with those he loved.
Besides his wife, Lavalle is survived by: two sons, E. L "Sonny" Rogerson, Jr. and Francis Dale (Ann) Rogerson, both of Georgetown; a daughter, Cynthia (Steve) Coursey of Charleston; a grandson, Bradford Dale Rogerson of Pawleys Island; a granddaughter, Alissa McCall of Georgetown; and a great-granddaughter, Coya Darcangelo of Georgetown. Lavalle also leaves behind: three granddaughters, eight great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
For over seventy years, Lavalle was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Dell. He was a loving and caring father and grandfather forever putting the needs of his family far above those of his own. He was a kind, generous man always giving of himself. A good and loyal friend to many and a true inspiration to those he leaves behind. Lavalle will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Funeral services will be three o'clock Thursday afternoon, February 5, 2009, in Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Michael Leonhardt. Burial will follow in Bethel United Methodist Cemetery near Andrews.
