Georgetown:
Elbert Jennings Gore, Jr., husband of Cleona Hardee Gore, entered into eternal rest on November 13, 2010, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Gore was born in Rocky Mount, N.C. on August 22, 1925, a son of the late Elbert Jennings Gore, Sr. and Daisy Bell Watkins Gore of Loris. He attended public schools in Loris and in Portsmouth, Va. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy on the destroyer USS O'Reilly in Europe and the South Pacific. After the War, he served in the Naval Reserve, the Army National Guard, and retired from the Army as a Master Sargent with a total of 24 years of military service.
Mr. Gore was employed by International Paper Company and retired as Power Plant Operator in 1988 with 40 years of service. He was an associate with Mayer Funeral Home for a number of years, and later was a bailiff at the Georgetown County Court House. Mr. Gore was a charter member of Lakewood Baptist Church and was an active member of First Baptist Church for most of his adult life, having served in various capacities at both churches. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club and was a 55 year (in 2007) Mason in Winyah # 40 Ancient Free Masons. He was a charter member of the Georgetown Kraft Credit Union and served on the Credit Committee for 21 years.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of Georgetown, are: a son, Steve W. Gore (Terrisa) of Lexington; a daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" G. Sanders (Walter) of Barnwell; two brothers, Bobby T. Gore (Pat) of Conway and John Michael Gore (Janet) of Tex.; four sisters, Dolores G. Cloutz of Charlotte, N.C., Nancy Gore of Charlotte, N.C., Maxine G. Jordan of N. Charleston, Vicki G. Carter (Tommy) of Davie, Fla.; five grandchildren, Haze and Hardee Sanders, Jessica and Lindsay Gore and Tiffany G. Eckel; one great-grandchild, Marissa Eckel; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon, November 14, 2010, at First Baptist Church at three o'clock. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Ted A. Sherrill. Private entombment will be at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church immediately following the funeral service.
