Georgetown:
Elbert Anderson Pope, Sr., 85, widower of Geneva McDaniel Pope, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Tidelands Hospice House.
Mr. Pope was born in the Center community of Upper Georgetown Co. on January 1, 1926, a son of the late Stanley Stonewall Pope and Berdie Baxley Pope. He worked for International Paper Co. for 44 years and owned and operated Elbert A. Pope Heating & Air for 24 years. Mr. Pope was a long-time member of Georgetown Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are: four sons, Elbert A. Pope, Jr. of Boston, Mass., Jerry S. Pope and Kenneth W. Pope, both of Georgetown and Ronnie C. Pope of Hemingway; a daughter, Christine P. Hoeger of Georgetown; two brothers, Lonnie L. Pope of Georgetown and Sherwood Pope of Columbia; four sisters, Sadie Adams of Odessa, Tex., Joretha Ellis of N. Charleston, and Marcella Russ and Marguerite Carmichael, both of Hemingway; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at eleven o'clock on Friday morning, May 20, 2011, at Georgetown Pentecostal Holiness Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Clide Glover and the Rev. Lonnie Brazell. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, May 19, 2011, at Georgetown Pentecostal Holiness Church from six until eight o'clock.
