Obituary

Georgetown: Elizabeth "Betty" Shuford Roberson, 88, widow of E. Norwood Roberson, died Monday, July 9, 2018, at her residence. Mrs. Roberson was born in Georgetown on November 24, 1929, a daughter of the late Robert Pow Shuford and Edna Butler Shuford. Mrs. Roberson was a retired employee of International Paper Company where she worked for a number of years. Mrs. Roberson was a lifetime member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, sang in the choir for over 50 years, and was a member of the church Archives Committee. She was a member of the Georgetown Historical Society and wrote multiple articles on local historical landmarks. Mrs. Roberson was also a member of the Georgetown Auditorium Preservation Society and was instrumental in preserving the old Winyah High School Auditorium. She was a charter member of the Georgetown Ribbon Club. Some of Mrs. Roberson's favorite activities included supper club with many long-time close Georgetown friends, bridge Club, Georgetown Ribbon Club, and playing tennis. Mrs. Roberson was married to the love of her life, Norwood, for 54 years and was a loving mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving are: two daughters, Kim Roberson of Columbia and Butler Roberson Mappus (Dick) of Charleston; a son, Woody Roberson (Vickie) of Summerville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. In addition to her husband and parents Mrs. Roberson was predeceased by: a son, Charles Shuford Roberson and a grandson, Jules Dickson Mappus, Jr. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 12, 2018 at twelve o'clock noon in the Chapel of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Dora Gafford. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home.
