Pawleys Island:
Elizabeth "Dutta" Conley Bland, 91, died Saturday, December 29, 2017.
She was born in Johnston, SC, the daughter of the late Dr. William Clifford Conley and Betty Waters Conley. Dutta spent her childhood in Johnston in the home of her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Philemon Waters. She attended Johnston Public Schools and Winthrop University, class of 1947.
She and her late husband, Jack LaGrone Bland, former Mayor of Pawleys Island, retired to the family home on Pawleys Island in 1982, from Bennettsville, SC.
She was a communicant of All Saints Church, where she was former president of the Episcopal Church Women and Secretary of Georgetown District Episcopal Church Women. Dutta was also a former member of the Altar Guild. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Winyah Chapter, the Edgefield County Historical Society, the Georgetown County Historical Society and other charitable organizations. Dutta loved being a "Mema" to her grandchildren and great-granddaughter and especially spending time with her family at her Pawleys Island home. Her favorite days were Sundays, especially coming to worship at The Abbey.
Survivors are: a son, Jack LaGrone Bland, Jr. (Dinah) of Richmond, VA; a daughter, Betty Bland Shelley (Eddie) of Conway; four grandchildren, Philip Dillon Bland, Caroline Berry Bland, Katherine Shelley Darnell (Travis), Sarah Bland Shelley; a great-granddaughter, Conley Lane Darnell, and a special first cousin Charlie Duke.
Funeral Services will be at ten o'clock, Saturday morning, January 6, 2018, at the Abbey in Pawleys Island. Officiating will be the Rev. Stuart P. Boehmig. Burial will be private.
