Pawleys Island:
Emily Best West, 72, of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at her

Emily West was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina on November 20, 1950, wife of the late Thomas
Miles West.
Emily was a member of Prince George Winyah Parrish Anglican Church in Georgetown, SC. She was
president of the Tour of Homes, helped with prayers for parishioners, and participated in many ladies'
bible studies. Emily was an assistant kindergarten teacher for several years, a volunteer for Brookgreen
Gardens, and a member of the Cultural Council through the Arts, enjoying her art classes there. She also
enjoyed boating and travels with her husband and as well as enjoying the many flowers in her garden.
After the passing of her husband, Emily downsized and moved to Pawleys Island where she liked walks
with her dog and making new friends in the area. She brought her Knight Circle neighborhood friends
together. With her love for painting she began a small business decoupaging oyster shells from Pawleys.
Emily was a vibrant person who enjoyed the company of others. She was a burst of joy to those who
knew her.
