Obituary

Pawleys Island Emory Olin Adams III, 77, died Wednesday, March 25, 2020 due to complications from an infection. He leaves his wife of 46 years, Janis Anderson Adams; his sons, Emory Adams IV and Andrew Adams; a grandson, Andrew Adams Jr; his sister, Madeline Drake and other friends and family. Born in Kingstree, SC, the son of Emory Adams Jr and Mae Bradham Adams, he grew up in Georgetown and graduated from Winyah High School before joining the Army in 1960. In the Army he served in the 101st Airborne Division, participating in the Cuban Missile Crisis and the integration of universities in Mississippi and Tennessee. After the Army, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where he met his wife. After several years, they settled in Edison, NJ, where they raised their sons. He worked for several companies including Safety-Kleen, Engelhard and finally BASF, before retiring in 2008. He coached little-league baseball at North Edison Baseball and Softball and was also the league's Treasurer for several years. His biggest joy was spending time with his family. Throughout his life he enjoyed the beach and the marsh at Pawleys Island, especially wildlife watching. A private memorial service will be held on Monday 30 March 2020 at Mayer Funeral Home in Georgetown, SC.
