Eric Joseph Dorr, 64, of Hemingway, South Carolina, passed away suddenly at his home on August 2, 2026, after spending a wonderful day surrounded by his family at one of his favorite places—the beach.

Eric was born on May 11, 1962, in Washington, D.C., to Alicia Cunningham Dorr and Gerald Donald Dorr Sr. A proud United States Marine, Eric carried the strength, loyalty, and dedication of a Marine throughout his life. After completing his military service, he used the electrical skills he learned as an Aircraft Electronic System Tech. while serving his country in his career as an electrician at AGRU America.

Above all, Eric was a devoted family man. He loved his family deeply and supported them in all their endeavors in every way. He was always willing to offer his strength, guidance, time, and encouragement to the people he loved. He especially cherished his children and grandson, and his family always knew they could depend on him.

Eric was a gifted athlete with a lifelong love of sports. He played football as #40 at Oxon Hill High School and was voted Most Valuable Player during his freshman year at Salisbury State University; an achievement he remained proud of throughout his life. He later continued playing flag football for many years as a member of the Cutters, forming lasting friendships with his teammates. Although football was an important part of his life, basketball was the sport he loved most and preferred to play whenever he had the opportunity.

Eric found great joy in surf fishing, where he could spend peaceful hours by the ocean, and in watching old Westerns, whose familiar stories and characters brought him comfort and entertainment. Eric had a deep love for animals, both great and small. He treated every creature with kindness and compassion, and animals seemed naturally drawn to his gentle and caring spirit.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Donald Dorr Sr; his sister, Mischa Dorr-Ames; and his younger brother, Terry Dorr.

Eric is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Dorr; his daughters, Emily May Dorr and Rachel Anne Flowers (John); his cherished grandson, John David “JD” Flowers IV; his mother, Alicia Dorr; his sister, Megan Ashworth (Lawrence); and his brother, Gerald Donald Dorr Jr .(Lora) Eric maintained a close and lasting relationship with the mother of his children, Debbie May Dorr, as well as with her parents, Dave and Theresa Williams. Their continued bond reflected the importance Eric placed on family, loyalty, and the relationships built throughout his life.

Eric’s sudden passing leaves an immeasurable absence in the lives of those who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his loyalty, his strength, and the many ways he cared for and supported those around him. He will be deeply missed.

An open-house memorial service and celebration of Eric’s life will be held at his home throughout the day on Friday, August 7, 2026. Those wishing to attend are asked to contact the family for the address and additional information.
