Georgetown:
Ernest Clyde Stalvey, Jr., 80, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007.
Mr. Stalvey was born in Georgetown on April 7, 1927 to the late Ernest Clyde Stalvey, Sr. and Vivian Rouse Stalvey. He was a graduate of Winyah High School, attended the Citadel where he was a Company Bugler and was a graduate of the National Radio Institute (NRI).
After college, Mr. Stalvey joined his father in the hardware and furniture business in Georgetown. After a few years, he opened his own business specializing in radio and television, both household and commercial appliances. Mr. Stalvey later branched out into heating and air conditioning, roofing, retail fuel oil sales, a Marine Boat Dealership and two-way radio communications. His businesses, Stalvey's and Stalvey Communications, served the Georgetown and surrounding communities for over 50 years. He was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church.
Mr. Stalvey was an avid aviator who ferried many dignitaries such as Senator Strom Thurmond, around the state and served as the Georgetown Co. Airport Commissioner for about 25 years, vacating the seat in 1995. He was later reappointed to the board and served until late 2000. Clyde was the founding president of the Georgetown Auditorium Preservation Society (GAPS) which was a group that successfully worked to get the facility renovated. He was an active radio operator holding a First Class Radiotelegraph Operator's License. While still in high school, Mr. Stalvey was a member of the Winyah Marching Band.
He is survived by: his wife of 57 years, Julia Ann Yaun Stalvey of Georgetown; four children, Ernest Clyde (Chip) Stalvey III, Rodney (Rod) Jay Stalvey and Gary Rouse Stalvey, all of Georgetown, and Leslie Ruth Boyatt of Naples, Fla.; a sister, Joanne S. Carter of Pawleys Island; a brother, Thomas W. Stalvey of Mt. Pleasant; and seven grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday evening, September 13 at five o'clock at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be eleven o'clock Friday morning, September 14, 2007 at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
