Etta "Peggy" Gladson Turner's Obituary

Pawleys Island: Etta "Peggy" Gladson Turner, 92, widow of David Emerson Turner, died peacefully at home on Thursday, February 21, 2013, after a short illness. Mrs. Turner was born in the Sampit community of Georgetown on April 22, 1920, a daughter of the late Godfrey Dempsey Gladson and Elizabeth Caroline "Carrie" Smith Gladson. She graduated from Andrews High School in 1937. Mrs. Turner lived in Wooster, Ohio from 1949-1955, and in Morristown and Convent Station, N. J. from 1955-1980, before retiring to Pawleys Island. At the age of 60, she starting painting with watercolors and was taught by Bruce Chandler and Danny McLaughlin. Mrs. Turner was a member of the Georgetown Co. Watercolor Society, the S. C. Watercolor Society, the Georgetown Co. Cultural Council, and Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church. Surviving are: a son, Michael W. Turner of Pawleys Island; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Turner Naso of Venice, Fla.; three grandchildren, Debbie Rudtke (Chris) of Alachua, Fla., Sue Turner (Gayle) of New York City, and Jill Ayers (Richard) of North Port, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Lauren and Jon Rudtke, and Emily Ayers; two sisters, Mary Gladson (Jay) of Georgetown, and Betty Scherich (Ed) of Rio Vista, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband of 70 years, Mrs. Turner was predeceased by: a son, David Erskine Turner; a granddaughter, Laura Turner; two brothers, Paul and Albert Gladson; and a sister, Bernice Gladson Smith. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Frank S. Holsclaw. Burial will follow at Sampit United Methodist Cemetery in the Sampit community. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the Church's Open Door Fellowship Center prior to the service from eleven until twelve o'clock. Sign a guestbook at: www.mayerfuneralhome.com.
