Georgetown:
Eulalie (Leila) Swinton Fenhagen, 54, poet and former director of Clinical Social Work at Boys Town of New York City, died Monday, November 7, 2005, at the home of her parents.
Ms. Fenhagen was born in Chattanooga, Tenn. on January 16, 1951, the daughter of The Reverend James Corner Fenhagen and Eulalie McFall Fenhagen. Her father was a former Dean and President of General Theological Seminary in New York City. Ms. Fenhagen attended school in Columbia, SC, before moving to Washington D.C., where she graduated from National Cathedral School. She was a graduate of Emory University and received her Master's Degree in Social Work at the University of Connecticut.
Ms. Fenhagen's career as a psychiatric social worker focused on treatment of adolescents. She worked at hospitals in Charleston, SC and Austin, TX. In 1990 she moved to New York City where she became Director of Clinical Social work at Boys Town of New York City. In 2000, she moved to Georgetown and began work in Charleston as Director of the T. C. Drayton Family Learning Center, a program of the Palmetto Project, which later became the South Carolina Center for Family Programs.
Ms. Fenhagen served on many community boards and committees, including the Amistad Committee, and she was the South Carolina Chairperson of the Washington National Cathedral Association. She was an avid dolphin enthusiast, having worked both locally and in Florida with organizations devoted to their survival. She was a member of Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church at Pawley's Island.
Surviving in addition to her parents of Georgetown are: two brothers, James Corner Fenhagen III, his wife Julianne of Montclair, New Jersey and their son, Aaron Fenhagen; John McFall Fenhagen of Washington D.C.; and a niece, Jessica Trahan, of Los Angeles, CA. .
A Memorial services will be two o'clock Thursday afternoon, November 10, 2005 at Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church. Officiating will be The Rev. Dr. Michael G. Cole, assisted by The Reverend Callie Perkins. A Committal Service will be at St. John's Episcopal Church Columbarium in Washington D.C. at 11 o'clock on November 14, 2005.
