Obituary

Georgetown: Eulice "Nell" Brister Gabbie, 96, died Monday, May 17, 2010, in Conway Medical Center in Conway. Mrs. Gabbie was born August 14, 1913, in Lincoln County, Miss. She was the daughter of the late Byrd Walter Brister and Lula Jeanette Reeves Brister. Mrs. Gabbie and her husband moved to Georgetown in August, 1948, where Mr. Gabbie went to work for International Paper Co. Mrs. Gabbie and her husband leased and operated The Rice Cottages at Pawleys Island for thirty-six years. Here they met people from many states, who became life long friends. After retirement, they spent the winters in Fort Pierce, Fla. Mrs. Gabbie was a member of the Georgetown Presbyterian Church since 1949. She enjoyed reading the Bible each day which was a guide for her life. She loved her family dearly and was interested in each one of them. She was a past president and member of the White's Bridge Garden Club. She also loved playing bridge with her Bridge Club friends. She had a very special talent for crocheting and art work. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harris Hall Gabbie, who was the love of her life. It was an inspiration to witness their love and devotion for each other for the fifty-seven years they were married. Also preceding her in death were: her parents; and nine brothers and sisters, Flora Elizabeth Burns, Dura Emma Height, Velma Inez Raiford, Veda Marie Thompson, Anna Ethel Hart, Edith Mae Thompson, Ernest Byrd Brister, Hollis Vinson Brister, and Claude Sylvester Brister. Surviving are: six nieces, Sylvia Brister Beard (Roy) of Shreveport, La., Bobbie Jeanette Carter of Athens, Ga., Delores Ann Pol (Walter Lee) of Pascagoula, Miss., Avanell Summers Seal of Miss., Jeannie Saunders of Columbia, Gwen Rhinehardt, and Janice Fitzgerald, both of Belchertown, Mass., Gwen Kyle of Knoxville, Tenn., and Marie June McNeel of Ackerman, Miss.; a sister-in-law, Jane Gabbie of Belchertown, Mass.; five nephews, Claude Hollis Brister (Jayna) of Houston, Tex., James Ernest Brister of New Mexico, Kenneth M. Brister (Virginia) of Lake Providence, La., Robert Vernon Hart and his wife of Pascagoula, Miss., and James Otis Gabbie (Glenda) of Helena, Ark.; and many great-nieces and nephews. She always appreciated "Miss Lolley" and all the nurses and staff at Emeritus at Conway Place, where she spent her last few years, for making her life so secure and easy. It was a life well lived, and we will miss her. Funeral services will be eleven o'clock Saturday morning, May 22, 2010, at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Officiating will be the Rev.
