Obituary

Andrews: Eva Lillian Wilder Tompkins, 91, widow of J. G. "Gus" Tompkins died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Tompkins was born in Andrews on March 25, 1914, a daughter of the late Henry Buford Wilder and Bessie Matthews Wilder. She was a graduate of Andrews High School and, with her husband, owned and operated Tompkins Furniture Co. for over sixty years until his death in 1999. She was the oldest active member of First Baptist Church of Andrews. She was known for her love of people and her positive and caring attitude. She took special pleasure in her flowers and in cooking for others, writing letters, and making phone calls to those she cared about. She set high standards for all and was dearly loved for her guidance and Christian example. Survivors include: one daughter, Lynne T. Cassady of Greenville; one granddaughter, Carol Rabinovitch and her husband Neil of Greer; one grandson, Brannen Cassady and his wife Sheila of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Bertha W. Hall Mainwaring of Dearborn, Mich.; four great-grandchildren, Parker Cassady and Chase Cassady, both of Memphis, Tenn., and Jacob Rabinovitch and Leanna Rabinovitch, both of Greer; and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Mrs. Tompkins was predeceased by: two sisters, Ruth W. Wilder and Wylma Wilder; and two brothers, Olin B. Wilder and Henry Wilder. The family wishes to send special thanks to her beloved and faithful care-givers, Rebecca Tilton and Myrtle Pressley. Also to her wonderful neighbors, Beverly and Ben Dunn and all the other caring neighbors and friends who made it possible for her to spend her last years in her own home. Funeral services will be eleven o'clock Saturday morning, April 9, 2005, at First Baptist Church of Andrews. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery.
