Georgetown:
Foster Durham Clowney, 87, died Friday, February 3, 2006, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Clowney was born in Olanta on November 28, 1918, a son of the late Henry Boyd Clowney and Frances Steele Clowney. He graduated from Olanta High School and moved to Georgetown in 1936. Mr. Clowney served with the Army Combat Engineers during World War II. Mr. Clowney retired from International Paper Co., where he was a timekeeper and pay master. He was a member of Winyah Indigo Society; Winyah Lodge #40, Ancient FreeMasons; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6444; and American Legion Post #114. He was also a member the Pine Tree Club and Quarter Century Club at the paper mill.
Surviving are: his wife, Katherine Stevens Clowney of Georgetown; a son, Foster D. Clowney, Jr. of Georgetown; a daughter, Nancy C. Young and her husband Max of Gilbert; a sister, Johnsey Lee Hanna of Lake City; two grandchildren, Julia Katherine Young and Ryan Stevens Young; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be three o'clock Sunday afternoon, February 5, 2006, at the graveside in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be the Rev. Phillip C. Thrailkill.
