Andrews:
Frances Morgan Gilleland, 90, died Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Tidelands Community Hospice House in Georgetown.
Mrs. Gilleland was born May 15, 1925 in Savannah, Ga to David Calvin Morgan and Mary Lou Wilson Morgan. She spent her growing up years in Andrews, attended the Andrews Schools, and graduated from Andrews High School in 1942. Mrs. Gilleland attended Converse College and St. Francis Schools of Nursing as a Cadet Nurse.
Mrs. Gilleland married Cecil Ellis Gilleland, son of Hugh Edward Gilleland and Bleeka Reavis Gilleland of Kingstree in 1946. Cecil attended The Citadel. They then moved to Panama City, Fla., where they had two children, Gail and David. When Mr. Morgan died in 1953, they moved back to Andrews. Cecil worked for International Paper Company. They had two more children, Calvin and Eddie, and "Miss" Frances started a private kindergarten, "The Bee Hive".
On May 3, 1962, Cecil was the victim of an explosion in his backyard and in June died of his injuries. Mrs. Gilleland continued with her kindergarten at the public school, then Granny Morgan's house, and later at the Baptist Church. She build a kindergarten at her home, but never used it for school, as Mrs. Gilleland moved to Fort Mill and worked for Jim Baker at Heritage USA at "Lollipop Day Care" She lived there for 13 years and loved it, and so did her grandchildren. After the closing of Heritage USA, she moved back to Andrews and worked at the Museum for 11 years. She retired on her birthday, May 15, 2003.
Mrs. Gilleland was a member of First Baptist Church of Andrews. She loved to play bridge, was a bird watcher, and had a collection of stray animals.
Mrs. Gilleland had a special rapport with children, especially her kindergarten family.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Gilleland was predeceased by: a son, Edward "Eddie" Gilleland.
Surviving are: two sons, David Gilleland of Tampa, Fla. and Calvin Gilleland of Green Sea; a daughter, Gail G. Thomas of Walterboro; twelve grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be three o'clock Saturday afternoon, June 27, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Andrews. Officiating will be The Rev. Brad Dunn. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Church Parlor prior to the service from two until three. Her going home celebration will also, be a reunion of her kindergarten children.
