Georgetown:
Frances Jean Lusk Mercer, 79, died Sunday, August 23, 2009, at the home of her daughter in Mt. Pleasant.
Mrs. Mercer was born in Easley in Pickens Co. on September 18, 1929, a daughter of the late Samuel Hampton Lusk and Thelma Ione Lark Lusk. She was a graduate of Lander College.
Mrs. Mercer was a retired Elementary School Teacher and taught in the Charleston Co. School Districts 1 and 2. She was a member of the National Teacher's Association, the Palmetto State Teachers Association, and the Alpha Delta Kappa sorority. Mrs. Mercer was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and had been active in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America.
Mrs. Mercer was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Georgetown. She was active in church work prior to moving to Georgetown, and served her former church with the Youth Evening Group, as a Sunday School teacher, Bible School director, Chairperson of the Women's Group, and as coordinator for the Youth Sunday School Group.
Mrs. Mercer was predeceased by: her husband, William Eaddy Mercer, Sr.; and two sisters, Hazel Lusk Miller and Mary Wanda Lusk.
Surviving are: a son, William Eaddy Mercer, Jr. of Miami Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Jean Lusk Mercer Kablick (George) of Sullivan's Island and Elizabeth Lark Mercer Hunter (Andy) of Mt. Pleasant; three brothers, Herbert Hampton Lusk of Liberty and Sam Glen Lusk and William Thomas Lusk, both of Easley, and Herbert Hampton Lusk of Liberty; four sisters, Helen Lusk Cox of Dayton, Ohio, Winola Lusk Watt of Columbus, Ga., Joan Lusk Allen of Greenwood, and Freddie Lusk Jewsbury of Easley; and seven grandchildren, William Eaddy Mercer III, Sarah Elizabeth Mercer, George Peter Kablick III, Frances Mercer Kablick, Stanley Hampton Kablick, Mercer Carole Hunter, and Parks Ione Hunter.
Funeral services will be Wednesday morning, August 26, 2009, at eleven o'clock at the graveside in Oak Grove United Methodist Churchyard. Officiating will be her nephew the Rev. Christopher Mercer Huff.
