Obituary

Pawleys Island: Francis Johnston Morris, 76, a retired forester with Mead Corporation, died Tuesday, December 23, 2010, at his residence in Pawleys Plantation. A celebration of his life will be on Tuesday morning, December 28, 2010 at eleven o'clock at Georgetown Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be Dr. William H. Puckett, Jr. A reception will immediately follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. The family requests that you celebrate your own Christmas family tradition and then join them for visitation Monday evening, December 27, 2010 from five until seven o'clock at 160 Red Tail Hawk Loop in Pawleys Plantation. Born in Georgetown County on September 12, 1934, Mr. Morris was the son of the late Edgar Cleveland Morris and Dosia Trisvan Anderson Morris. He was a 1952 graduate of Winyah High School and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia. Mr. Morris was a U.S. Army veteran and an avid Georgia Bulldogs football fan. Mr. Morris lived in Georgia most of his adult life, where he retired from Mead Corporation as Land Management Coordinator. Prior to Mead, he was employed with Georgia Kraft. In Cornelia, Ga., he was president of the Jaycees and Lion's Club. He was chairman of the deacon board at Cornelia Presbyterian Church. He also served in numerous other capacities. In 1971, Mr. Morris was recognized as an Outstanding Young Man of America. While at Mead, he was the recipient of a Safety Award that was created in his honor. Mr. Morris and his wife, Edith, retired to Pawleys Plantation twelve years ago. He was a member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church. Surviving are: his wife, Edith, of Pawleys Plantation; a daughter, Melanie G. Morris of Rome, Ga.; a son, Matthew H. Morris of Mt. Pleasant and Pawleys Plantation; two sisters, Ann M. McDaniel of Charleston and Nell Morris Cribb of Georgetown; one brother, Herbert O. Morris of Fredericksburg, Tex.; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Along with his parents, Mr. Morris was predeceased by: four brothers, Rufus Morris, Dan Morris, Clifton Morris and Jack Morris; and three sisters Lucille Morris Milton, Marie Morris McCormick and Ida Bell Morris.
