Georgetown:
Freddie Gene Shelly, 62, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Mr. Shelly was born October 12, 1944, a son of the late William Bernice Shelley and Thelma Mae Jacobs Shelley. He lived all of his life in Georgetown, where he was a graduate of Winyah High School. Mr. Shelly was also a graduate of the Police Academy in Columbia and the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va. He served as a policeman for the City of Georgetown for twelve years and was the Georgetown City Police Chief for the final six years. After retirement from the Georgetown City Police Dept. in 1977, Mr. Shelly worked as a commercial crab fisherman for a number of years. He was a member of the Church of God.
Surviving are: his wife, Annie Sue Carter Shelly of Georgetown; three daughters, Dena (Darrell) Pope and Darlene (Junior) Blakely, both of Georgetown, and Marlene (Glenn) McConnell of Andrews; three step-sons, Albert (Sabrina) McDowell of Georgetown, Johnny (Rhonda) McDowell of Sumter, and Sam (Becky) McDowell of Nashville, Tenn.; a step-daughter, Mary Barton of Georgetown; two brothers, W. Earl (Connie) Shelley and E. Wayne (Jean) Shelley, both of Georgetown; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be five o'clock Friday afternoon, July 27, 2007, at the Church of God. Officiating will be the Rev. Milton Stubblefield. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
