Georgetown:
George Crile Roof, 62, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Roof was born in Syracuse, N. Y. on June 10, 1941, a son of the late George Jacob Roof and Ruth Elizabeth Sullivan Roof. He grew up in Auburn, N. Y. and Syracuse and was an Eagle Scout and an Air Explorer Scout. Mr. Roof graduated from Central Tech High School, attended National College in Kansas City, Mo. and Union College in Barbourville, Ky., and graduated from Scarritt College in Nashville, Tenn. He also attended Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. and served as a United Methodist minister in Ky., N. Y., and S. C. for fifteen years. Mr. Roof earned a Masters of Education from the University of South Carolina in Columbia and was employed by the Georgetown Co. Board of Education from 1971 until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Surviving are: his wife, Myrna K. Eggensperger Roof of Georgetown; two sons, George David Roof and his wife Lorraine of Hanahan and Mark Kevin Roof and his wife Jeanine of Easley; a daughter, Karen Christine R. Becker and her husband Joseph James of Raleigh, N. C.; two brothers, Dalton James Roof of Syracuse, N. Y. and Ronald Lynn Roof of Raleigh, N. C.; a sister, Marleah Ann R. Reed of Auburn, N. Y; three grandchildren, Myranda Frances and Caroline Grace Becker, both of Raleigh, N. C., and George Christiansen Roof of Hanahan; two step-grandchildren, Kelly Elizabeth Becker and Joseph Phillip Becker, both of Raleigh, N. C.; and several nephews and nieces.
Mr. Roof was predeceased by a grandson, Davidson Curry Roof.
The family will receive friends at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon, May 26, 2004, from four until six.
Funeral services will be twelve o'clock noon Saturday, May 29, 2004, at the Goddard-Crandall & Sheppardson Funeral Home in Syracuse, N. Y. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in De Witt, N. Y. The family will receive friends prior to the service from eleven until twelve at the funeral home.
