Pawleys Island:
Gerda Gussow Havel, 88, died Saturday, December 3, 2005, at her residence.
Mrs. Havel was born in Hamburg, Germany on May 2, 1917, a daughter of the late Walter G. Gussow and Minna Blank Gussow. She moved to the United States as a young girl and grew up in Miami, Fla. Mrs. Havel moved to Pawleys Island in 1941 and was a prolific writer of poetry. She was the widow of Joseph Frank Havel.
Surviving are: a son, Jeff Havel of Pawleys Island; two daughters, Hedy Havel Fredericks of Cedar Key, Fla. and Avis Havel Hutchinson of Pawleys Island; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Glick, Meghan Hutchinson, and Rachel Hutchinson, all of Pawleys Island, Kent Havel of Wedgefield, Kristy Havel Harbaugh of Myrtle Beach, Jamaica Lee Fredericks of San Francisco, Calif., and Jake Fredericks of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and five great grandchildren, Mary Gray Glick, Emma Glick, Harry Woodbury, Bradley McDonald, and Josh McDonald.
Funeral services will be three o'clock Tuesday afternoon, December 6, 2005, at the graveside in All Saints Church Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Bob Barrows and the Rev. Rhett Talbert.
