Gilbert Barker
McCall, Jr.
Apr 15, 1960 — Oct 20, 2026
Georgetown
Gilbert Barker McCall Jr., age 66, of Georgetown, SC, passed away on October 20 at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Born in Easley, SC, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert B. McCall Sr.
Gil graduated from the University of South Carolina with a business and finance degree. He enjoyed a long and successful career in home health finance and services, and retired from VGM in 2021 as a regional manager.
He is survived by his wife Liz, of the family home; his son, Davis, of Wilmington, N.C.; his sisters, Carol Patterson (Graham) of Richmond, Virginia, and Bootsy Jamerson of Norfolk, Virginia; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Alda Powell of Elkton, Virginia; sister-in-law Pat (Greg) Kellam of Harrisonburg, Virginia; and brother-in-law Jim (Cathy) Powell of McGaheysville, Virginia. He also has many nieces, nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Gil was a faithful Christian who lived the golden rule with humility and compassion. He had friends from all walks of life and was a source of comfort to them in times of difficulty. His counsel was often sought by those having abiding questions of faith. He prepared himself to be the next link in Christian faith by studying apologetics, which he brought to young people as a Sunday school teacher. It was rewarding to witness the awe and genuine interest in youths who were discovering apologetics for the first time. Many of them, as adults, expressed their gratitude to Gil for the value this experience brought into their lives. Gil also served as a volunteer with Samaritan’s Purse disaster relief.
Gil was a loving family man. One of the greatest joys of his life was being Davis’ father. He embraced his in-laws with his whole heart and was a gift and joy to his chosen family.
Services will be private, and a memorial service will be arranged at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Camp McCall, the Christian youth camp his paternal grandparents, Roy and Belle Roper McCall, were instrumental in founding, at 108 Ambassador Rd., Sunset, SC 29685.
The Maryville Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home is assisting the family.
