Georgetown:
Mrs. Gladys Turner Blakeley, 94, widow of John Muldrew Blakeley, Sr. of Andrews, died Saturday, October 1, 2011, at Prince George Healthcare Center.
Mrs. Blakeley was born in Florence on January 2, 1917, a daughter of the late Edwin Kencie Turner and Geneva Harris Turner. She was the first librarian at Andrews Library, where she worked for many years. Mrs. Blakeley was also a receptionist at Georgetown Memorial Hospital before moving to Florence, where she worked for Trayco until her retirement. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of Andrews and Immanuel Baptist Church of Florence. Mrs. Blakeley was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Georgetown.
Surviving are: a daughter, Geneva Blakeley Woodbury (Billy) of Georgetown; a son, Harris Turner Blakeley of Georgetown; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Blakeley was predeceased by: six brothers, Leroy, Aubrey, Edwin, Harris, Lonnie and Ray Turner; a sister, Jewel Turner Bailey; two step-sons, Muldrew Blakeley and John Blakeley, Jr.; and a step-daughter, Katheleen Eriksen.
Funeral services will be at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon, October 4, 2011, at First Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Ted A. Sherrill and Rev. Jerry Aiken. Burial will follow at Andrews Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Tuesday in the Church Parlor from one until two o'clock.
