Gloria D Haas
Gloria, aka "G" and "G G" by her grandchildren was 74 when she left us to be with God.
She lived in Pawleys Plantation, Pawleys Island, SC where she was known as a good
neighbor and friend to many. She died on Wednesday April 28 at home with her family.
Many know of her nearly eight year fight against Ovarian Cancer.
She was born in St. Johns, Michigan to Gladys Padgett DeLaere and Albert Christopher
DeLaere on July 30, 1946. She grew up there on a farm with her older sister, Janet
Lee Florence. She married Brian E. Haas on August 6, 1966 in St. Johns, MI. She was
educated as a cosmetologist and worked in Lansing, MI and later in Maryland after she
and Brian relocated there after he graduated from Michigan State University. Living first
in Glen Burnie and then settling in the Severndale neighborhood in Severna Park, MD.
She and Brian raised their daughter, Michele and son, Christopher there where they had
many friends and wonderful times. Later they built a beautiful home on Bay Head Road
in Annapolis, MD. They retired to Pawleys Island in 2012 after having a condo in
Pawleys Plantation for many years. They built a home on the golf course not far from
their condo which they still have. Gloria loved to host and cook for family and friends, as
she was an excellent cook. Other hobbies she enjoyed were oil painting, gardening,
traveling with friends and family as often as possible and spending time with her family.
She was a member of All Saints Church in Pawleys Island where services will be on
Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 12:00PM.
She is survived by her spouse of 54 years, Brian E. Haas, her daughter Michele M.
Haas of Baltimore, MD, her son Christopher E. Haas, his wife Leslie and their two
children Millie and Bennett of Annapolis, MD. Her sister, Janet L. Florence and her
husband Benjamin M. Florence, Traverse City, MI, their children, Greg Terrell, Traverse
City, MI and Lisa T. Hales and husband Thomas S. Hales, Delaware, OH. On Brian's
side, she is survived by several brothers and their wives along with many nieces and
nephews.
A church service will be held at All Saints Church 3560 Kings River Road, Pawleys
Island, SC. 29585 at noon on May 4, 2021.
A celebration of life gathering will immediately follow after the service at South End Bistro, 8151 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island, SC until 4:00PM.
