It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Golden Theodore Long, 89, on Jul 30, 2025, surrounded by family. He was a loving and attentive husband to Mary Langley Long for 48 Years.
Born on February 10, 1936, in Andrews SC, he was the son of Alice Long Smith (deceased). He graduated from Andrews High School in 1956 and went on to serve honorably in the United States Air Force for four years. Returning from his overseas assignment in Tripoli, Libya, he separated from the Air Force in 1960. Upon return to Andrews he accepted a position as a part time postal employee until his relocation to Charleston where he began a long and successful career with the Department of Defense at Charleston AFB and then other installations both stateside and overseas. His service to our country continued for 33-years. He retired from civil service in 1996, but continued his worldwide travels with his wife Mary, living in Japan, Germany, Turkey, and Portugal.
Goldie was a loving husband, caring Father, and Grandfather. He is survived by his wife Mary, of the home; son, Charles. D. Long of New Braunfels, TX; his daughter, Golden T. Tilley (Ben) of Grand Rapids, MI; and granddaughters, Ava Joy Fradette and Rylee Bryn Fradette of Grand Rapids, MI.
He will be greatly missed by his surviving siblings, Woodrow W. Smith of Ft Pierce, FL and Laura Mae Martin of Hartsville, SC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who grew-up wanting to be just like "Uncle Goldie".
The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in the Andrews Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow in the chapel at 11:00 AM, officiated by Rev. Keith Wall. Burial will be in the Fulton-Long Family Cemetery in Andrews.
