McClellanville:
Gus Meldeau Cumbee, 91, died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Hospice of Charleston Hospice Center of Mt. Pleasant.
Mr. Cumbee was born in McClellanville on March 10, 1919, son of Marion McClevey Gant Cumbee and Daisy Ann Brinson Cumbee. He was a decorated Army Veteran of World War II having been awarded the Silver Star. Mr. Cumbee was a mechanic at the wool mill in Jamestown, and was also a handyman and automobile mechanic. He was a member of McClellanville First Baptist Church and was also the caretaker of the Church Cemetery.
Surviving are: his wife, Ila Mae Denney Cumbee of McClellanville; a daughter, Mable Ann Cumbee Thomas (Gerald) of Freemont, N. C.; three granddaughters, Martha Langley (Jessie) of Freemont, Dottie Thomas (Michael Wilson) of Indian Trail, N. C., and Becky Brown (Eric) of Wilmington, N. C.; four great-grandchildren, Sydney, Kendall, Delaney, and Aubrey.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 7, 2011 at two o'clock at McClellanville First Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Ricky West and Rev. Bill Archer. Burial will follow in McClellanville Baptist Church Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at McClellanville First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from one until two o'clock prior to the service.
