Obituary

Georgetown: Lula Gwendolyn Williams Mitchum, 83, died August 19, 2005. Mrs. Mitchum was born in Georgetown on December 17, 1921, daughter of the late Jacob Wesley Williams and Lula Mae Baxley Williams. She was a graduate of Union High School, Class of 1939, and a graduate of the College of Commerce in Florence. Mrs. Mitchum was a devoted church member of Lakewood Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was president of the WMU for many years. She was an avid supporter of the youth and a member and supporter of Concerned Women of America. She retired from the Purchasing Department of Georgetown Hospital after 24 years. Surviving are: two daughters, Delores Gwen Meekins and her husband John of Georgetown, and Brenda May Cribb and her husband Mike of Murrells Inlet; seven grandchildren, Julie Gwenette Harrelson, Leslie Dawn Cribb, Jennifer Dee Cribb, Johnette Denise Niell, Monica Danette Schneider, Daniel Lanier Cooper and Patrick Shawn Cooper; two great-grandchildren, Julian Calhoun Harrelson and Gabrielle BreAnna Schneider; two sisters, Carmen Ercell Tyler and Sally Miriam Cox, both of Georgetown; four brothers, Loyal Wesley Williams and Olin Franklin Williams, both of Charleston, and Winston Levoy Williams and Cecil Ranford Williams, both of Georgetown. Mrs. Mitchum was predeceased by a bother, Wyman Jefferson Williams. Funeral services will be at two o'clock Sunday afternoon, August 21, 2005, at Lakewood Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Schuyler Peterson. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Baptist Churchyard. Sign a guest book at www.mayerfuneralhome.com.
