McClellanville:
Harriette Meyer Leland, 85, died at her residence Friday, December 23, 2005.
Mrs. Leland was born October 15, 1920 in Meyer's Mill near Barnwell, the daughter of Charles Olan Meyer and Annie Laurie Roundtree Meyer. She was a graduate of Coker College and the Medical College of South Carolina, where she earned a degree as a medical technologist. Mrs. Leland taught math and science at McClellanville High School. She was a founder of Archibald Rutledge Academy, where she served as the first Head of School and as a teacher. Mrs. Leland was a member of New Wappetaw Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are: her husband, Rutledge Baker Leland, Jr. of McClellanville; a son, Rutledge B. Leland, III of McClellanville; a granddaughter, Allen Leland DuPre of McClellanville; a grandson, Rutledge Leland, IV of Brevard, N. C.; two great-grandchildren, Andrew Hibben DuPre and Avery Grace Leland; a brother, Charles O. Meyer, Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at eleven o'clock Monday, December 26, 2005 at New Wappetaw Presbyterian Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Walter G. Cook.
