Pawleys Island:
Harry Charles Maloney, 80, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Morningside Assisted Living in Georgetown.
Mr. Maloney was born in Wyoming, Ohio on September 9, 1929, a son of the late James Maloney and Mary Geraci Maloney. He grew up in Lancaster, Pa., where he graduated in 1953 from Franklin and Marshall College. Mr. Maloney was an Army veteran serving in the occupation of Korean. After a distinguished career as a college English professor, he retired in 1983 from Burlington County College in Pemberton, N.J. Mr. Maloney then joined his sister's family in Pawleys Island and continued to teach at Coastal Carolina University in Conway.
Mr. Maloney was predeceased by: three sisters, Angelina Shreiner Camp of Tex., Mabel Piazza of Pa. and Margaret Shortino of Pawleys Island; a brother-in-law, Frank Shortino; and a nephew, Tony Shortino, with whom he resided. Not wanting to live alone, he moved to Morningside, where he found a wonderful new family in the residents and staff.
Surviving are: two nieces, Michele Shreiner Weber of Fort Worth, Tex. and Madeline Piazza of Wilkes Barre, Pa.; and long time friends and neighbors, Marie and Thomas Williams and their children, Tom, Mary Grace and Molly of Gray Man's Cove, Pawleys Island.
Memorial services will be on Friday morning, June 11, 2010, at nine thirty at Morningside Assisted Living, 2628 N. Fraser St. in Georgetown. A private inurnment will follow at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort.
