Obituary

Georgetown: Harry Laverne McConnell, 67, died Tuesday, September 6, 2005, at Morningside of Georgetown. Mr. McConnell was born in Georgetown on May 22, 1938, a son of Myrtle Alford McConnell and the late Harry H. McConnell. He was a graduate of Winyah High School, Class of 1957, and served in the Marine Corps. Mr. McConnell was instrumental in organizing the first reunion of Platoon 257 at Parris Island. Mr. McConnell began his employment in the Lab at International Paper Co. in 1960 and retired as Head Woodscaler. He was a past president of Local 357 and participated in the Union negotiations with the paper co. Mr. McConnell was a former member of the Credit Committee and Board of Directors of the Kraft Credit Union. Mr. McConnell was a member of Prince Frederick, Plantersville, Episcopal Church. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6444. Mr. McConnell was also a member of the Quarter Century Club at the paper mill. Surviving are: his wife, Jacqueline Joyner McConnell of Georgetown; a son John Buonadonna and his wife Penny of Durham, N. C.; a daughter, Maria B. Infinger and her husband Jeffrey of Georgetown; his mother of Georgetown; two brothers, John A. McConnell and Timmy I. McConnell, both of Georgetown; five sisters, Juliette M. James, Harriette M. Davis, and Ellen M. Ward, all of Georgetown; Vickie M. Baker of Valparaiso, Ind., and Ginger M. Hamblin of Columbia; four grandchildren, Cristy Infinger and Jeremy Infinger, both of Columbia, and Joshua Buonadonna and Harrison Buonadonna, both of Durham, N. C. Funeral services will be one o'clock Friday, September 9, 2005, in Lakewood Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Schuyler Peterson and the Rev. Michael Leonhardt. Burial with military honors will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home Thursday evening, September 8, 2005 from seven until nine.
