Georgetown:
Helen Goodwin Manning, 81, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Mrs. Manning was born in Rye, N. Y. on July 15, 1927, a daughter of the late Walter Brown and Mary Law Goodwin Brown. She grew up in Bronxville, N. Y. and graduated from high school there. Mrs. Manning worked for a time as a secretary for Time-Life magazines in New York City. She lived in Jacksonville, Fla. and Columbia prior to moving to Georgetown.
Mrs. Manning was a communicant of Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church and served her church as a member of the Vestry and Altar Guild. She was a past President of the Churchwomen of Florida. Mrs. Manning was a long-time volunteer for Tidelands Community Hospice.
Surviving are: her husband, Richard I. Manning of Georgetown; two daughters, Katharine B. Manning of Pasadena, Calif. and Helen R. Manning of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Richard I. Manning, Jr. of Greensboro, N. C.; and four grandchildren, Richard I. Manning, III of Greensboro, N. C., L. Taylor Manning of Charlottesville, Va., Christiane Weis of Reno, Nev. and John Hill Center, Jr. of Melrose, Fla.
Memorial services will be eleven o'clock Friday morning, August 29, 2008 at Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Paul C. Fuener. Inurnment will follow at four o'clock Friday afternoon in Sumter Cemetery in Sumter.
