Georgetown:
Hollis Dale Cromartie, Jr. 86, husband of Doris McMeekin Cromartie, died Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at his Belle Isle residence.
Mr. Cromaartie was born in Conway on August 7, 1935, a son of the late Hollis Dale Cromartie, Sr. and Lillian Brockinton Skinner Cromartie.
Dale was a member of Screven Baptist Church and owner of Dale Cromartie Insurance Co. He was an avid Clemson Fan and never missed watching a game, and was so proud to be a member of Clemson IPTAY. He was a lifelong boater and fisherman, and had a passion for smoking and grilling on his Rec-Tec grill. Mr. Cromartie earned his air plane pilots license at age fifty.
Mr. Cromartie was a member of numerous clubs, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Mason's, and the Lions Club. He was a former Board Member of the Georgetown Airport and the Quiet Birdmen (QB) flying Club. Anyone who knew Dale knew that he loved his family with all his heart. He loved playing his guitar and singing, but was famous for his joke telling. He loved creating and fixing things in his workshop. Dale was always the first person to lend a helping hand and will surely be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cromartie was predeceased by: a sister, Lillian Cromartie Hendrickson.
Surviving are: his wife of sixty-four years, three daughters, Julie C. Porter (Rob) of Mt. Pleasant, Robin C. Ackary and Beth C. Burton (John), both of Charleston; five grandchildren, Chelsea King Milford (Brad), Amanda Ackary Bolatete (Isaiah), Christopher John Burton (Annie), Matthew Burton and William Brockinton King; three great-grandchildren, Jackson Dean Bolatete, Andrew James Milford and Hollis Samuel Milford; and a brother, James Bradley Cromartie (Alice ) of Georgetown, nine nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, May 15, 2022, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home from three until five o'clock.
A memorial service for the family will be eleven o'clock Monday, May16, 2022, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Jamie Harrelson.
