Georgetown: Imogene "Jean" Tankersley Osteen, 89, went home to the Lord on Feb. 6, 2018. Mrs. Osteen was born in the upstate River Falls Community on Oct. 24, 1928, to the late Posey Dill "P.D." and Marie Price Tankersley. Jean grew up in the mountains of River Falls and lived in Greenville County until moving to Georgetown, S.C., in 2016. She graduated from Slater-Marietta High School with honors and attended Greenville Women's College. She was a lifelong member of Gap Creek Baptist Church, serving as church pianist, Sunday school teacher, secretary and treasurer. Jean was an avid reader, accomplished storyteller, gifted homemaker and loved being outdoors. She generously shared her time, talents and spirituality with her family, friends, church and community. She treated everyone she met like family and was dearly cherished by all who knew her. She thoroughly enjoyed shape-note singing and organized an annual convention at Furman University after retirement from the Furman Co. The loving wife for 41 years to the late David "Dave" W. Osteen and for 10 years to the late John P. Gaston. Her brothers, Lowell H., James "Jim" and P.D. "Phil" preceded her in death. She is survived by her children: Vida Miller (Michael Carter) of Pawleys Island and William T. "Bill" Osteen (Linda Flinkingshelt) of Marietta; two-grandsons, William. B. "Brad" Osteen (Allison McConnell) of Easley and Cory T. Osteen of Greenville; and her beloved great grand-daughter, Lydia J. Osteen, of Easley, along with special nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Feb. 25 at 12:30 p.m. in the Old Church at Gap Creek Baptist Church, 388 Gap Creek Rd. The family invites you to join them for lunch and visitation after the service.
