Georgetown:
Isabel Etheredge Mayer, 98, widow of Robert Thompson Mayer, died Friday, July 22, 2011 at Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Mrs. Mayer was born at her grandfather's upcountry plantation, Mt. Willing, in Saluda Co. on October 16, 1912, a daughter of Joseph Wolfe Etheredge and Julia Ella Padgett Etheredge. She was a graduate of Saluda High School and Winthrop University.
Mrs. Mayer was a funeral director and an owner of Mayer Funeral Home and Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. She retired as President Emeritus of both firms.
Mrs. Mayer was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Susanna Wesley Bible Class and served her church in many capacities. Mrs. Mayer was also a member of the Winyah Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Georgetown Garden Club.
Surviving are: a son, Robert "Bob" T. Mayer, Jr. (Peggy) of Georgetown; a daughter, Josephine "Jody" M. Carlson of Wellesley, Mass.; five grandchildren, Kimberly C. Benner (Rich), Margot C. Delogne (Tony), Pennay M. Brown (Doug), C. Warner Mayer, and Robert T. Mayer, III.; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be ten o'clock Monday morning, July 25, 2011, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Edward Usher. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
