Georgetown:
James Martin Callaway, 84, former resident of Myrtle Beach, died Wednesday, September 29, 2004, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Callaway was born in Washington, Ga. on March 9, 1920, a son of the late Oliver Cecil Callaway and Edna Byrum Callaway. He was a graduate of Washington High School and attended Clemson University. Mr. Callaway served in the Army Air Corps in England during World War II. He married Cynthia Kelley Callaway in 1943 and they made their home in Myrtle Beach. Mr. Callaway worked with Santee Cooper for a time and also worked as an electrician. He was a volunteer with Myrtle Beach Fire and Rescue Squad and was active in writing fire safety manuals and teaching. Mr. Callaway was fire chief of Myrtle Beach for a time and was assistant fire chief at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base at the time of his retirement in 1992.
Mr. Callaway was an active member First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach. He served his church as a Deacon Emeritus, Adult Sunday School Teacher, choir member, and choir director.
Surviving in addition to his wife of Georgetown are: a son, Oliver C. "O. C." Callaway of Hemingway; four daughters, Cynthia Hope Moore and her husband Bill of Georgetown, Kathy Pressley and her husband David of Churchland, N. C., Nancy Morgan and her husband Steve of Jekyll Island, Ga., and Jan Martin Callaway of Marion; a sister, Mary Hope Miller of Myrtle Beach; six grandchildren, Charles E. "Bud" Forgason and Rachel Todd, both of Jekyll Island, Ga., Carey Todd of Amelia Island, Fla., Charity Callaway and Faith Callaway, both of Hemingway, and Bradon Pressley of Lexington, N. C.; and two great-grandchildren, Jaden Forgason and Junah Stores, both of Jekyll Island, Ga.
Memorial services will be two o'clock Saturday afternoon, October 2, 2004, at First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach. Officiating will be the Rev. Larry Cashatt Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends after the memorial services at the church fellowship hall.
