James Thomas Carter, 78, of Georgetown, SC, and husband of Ellen Carter, passed away on August 2, 2025, at NHC Murrells Inlet. Born on May 26, 1947, in Hemingway, South Carolina, James was the beloved son of Redge Carter and Mary Fulton Carter.
James was a dedicated and hardworking individual who spent his career in the ceramic tile industry, running his own business, Jimmy's Ceramic Tile. He was known for his craftsmanship and commitment to his work.
James was a man of many interests. He enjoyed construction, drag racing, and fishing. These hobbies brought him joy and allowed him to connect with friends and family.
He was a member of the Georgetown Church of God and was involved in various community activities throughout his life.
In addition to his wife, Ellen Ruth (Alford) Carter, James is survived by his loving family, his sisters, Emily Owens, Mickey Marshall, and Libby Powell (Jerry); his brother, Wayne Carter; his son, Robert Nathan Carter; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Redge and Mary Carter; his brother, Raymond Lee Carter; his daughter, Brenda Langston; his son, Jimmy Carter, Jr.; and his brother in law, Jimmy Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Tuesday, August 5, 2025 in the Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, with ministers Jack Todd, Kory Johnson, Jerry Cox, and Kim Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery. The family will greet friends from 3:00-4:00 PM prior to the service. James will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Pallbearers will be J.D. Rogers, Hunter Rogers, David Jaudon Goins, Chris Driggers, Paul Marshall, Kevin Goins, and John Lambert.
The Downtown Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
