Georgetown:
James Milton" Coopie" Cooper, 86, of Georgetown passed away on December 31, 2020.at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Cooper was born in Perry, Florida on September 21, 1934, a son of the late James Madison Cooper and Mary High Cooper. He grew up in Georgetown. He served twice in the Georgetown Unit of the SC National Guard and served in the US Airforce during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Cooper was a volunteer baseball coach for the recreation department with Palmetto Boys for twenty years. He also served as president of Winyah High Athletic Booster Club. Mr. Cooper was a member of Messiah Baptist Church, and owner of Coopers Trucking Company.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cooper is predeceased by: two granddaughters, Beth Moore and Jeanne Moore Cox; and a brother, John Horace Cooper of Daniel Island.
Surviving are: his wife, Peggie Ackerman Cooper of Georgetown, a son, James Walker Cooper of St. Augustine FL; three daughter, Jeanne Claudette Tisdale of Lake City; Peggy Diane Avant (Tony) of Conway; and Amy Lynn John (David) of Snohomish, WA; and seven grandchildren, Jessica Cooper, Ashley Cooper, Lucas Avant, Erika John, Logan John, Foster John, and Lacie Avant; one sister, Louise Cooper Altman of Georgetown; three brothers, Lynwood Cooper, Daniel Cooper and Terry Cooper all of Georgetown
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home from two until four o'clock.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to: Messiah Baptist Church, 2719 Old Charleston Rd, Georgetown, SC 29440.
