Obituary

James "Elliott" Glasser, a beloved father, grandfather, and pillar of the McClellanville community, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025. He was 84.

Born on March 20, 1941, in Grahamville, a small region of Ridgeland, South Carolina, Elliott was the son of the late Howard and Sarah Glasser. He graduated from Ridgeland High School, where he also worked as a school bus driver, and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for four years.

Following his military service, Elliott dedicated his life to public service. He began his career with the South Carolina State Highway Patrol and later served with the Charleston County Police Department until his retirement. Alongside his public service, Elliott was known for his work as an electrician in "The Village" of McClellanville.

A longtime resident of McClellanville, Elliott was a faithful member of McClellanville United Methodist Church. He was married to the love of his life, Daisy Lee Glasser, until her passing in 2004. Even after retirement, he continued to give back to his community by working part-time at Mayer Funeral Home.

Known affectionately by many names—Mr. Glasser, Mr. George, James, Elliott, Uncle George, Uncle Elly, Dad, and most lovingly, Papa—he will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and quiet strength.

Elliott was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Daisy Lee Glasser; his son, Alan Kann; his brothers, Howard, John, and Charles Glasser; and his sister, Sarah Glasser.

He is survived by his children, Kelly Mayer (Cliff), Debora "Debbie" Sellers (Steve), and Patricia "Patty" Kann; his sister, Jane Stanley; as well as his many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Downtown Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at McClellanville United Methodist Church, followed by a brief committal at Wren's Chapel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Wren's Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery fund, 6380 Come About Way, Awendaw SC 29429-6165, honoring Elliott's lifelong commitment to his community.
