Georgetown:
James Daughtridge Hazzard, 95, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at his residence.
Mr. Hazzard was born in Birmingham Alabama on March 29, 1916, a son of the late John Potter Hazzard and Della Mae Farmer Hazzard. He was a longtime resident of Georgetown, where he was a graduate of Winyah High School. Mr. Hazzard attended Clemson University. He served in the Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and was awarded Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart medals. Mr. Hazzard was a former SC State Probation Officer and owned and operated Hazzard Marina for over forty years. He was a communicant of Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church, a member of the Winyah Indigo Society, and an honorary member of the Cotillion Club of Georgetown.
Mr. Hazzard was predeceased by: his wife, Theda Prechter Hazzard; and two brothers, John Potter Hazzard III, and Westray Battle Hazzard.
Surviving are: a son, James Daughtridge Hazzard, Jr. (Delores) of Richmond, Ind.; two daughters, Delma Theda Hazzard of Georgetown and Alice Fraser Hazzard of Pawleys Island; six grandchildren, Jessica, Anna, and Fraser Jones, James D. Hazzard, III, Elizabeth Hazzard Rego (Brian); and Jareb Price; two great grandchildren, Juniper and Harper Rego, and his loyal companion for sixteen years, Miss Missy, a Jack Russell Terrier.
Funeral services will be three o'clock Saturday afternoon, February 4, 2012, at Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church. Officiating will be The Rev. Paul C. Fuener and The Rt. Rev. C. FitzSimons Allison. Burial will follow in the Churchyard. A reception will follow the graveside service in the Church Parish Hall.
