Pawleys Island:
James Martin Herndon, 60, died Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet.
Mr. Herndon was born in Augusta, Ga. on September 10, 1951, a son of the late Nolan Anderson Herndon, a "Doolittle Raider," and Julia Crouch Herndon. He grew up in Edgefield and graduated from Georgia Southern University. Mr. Herndon was a member of First Baptist Church in Georgetown and the Billy Douglas Sunday School Class. He lived in Pawleys Island since 1974 and worked for ArcelorMittal USA-Georgetown for 37 years. Mr. Herndon was an avid outdoorsman and conservationist.
Surviving are: his wife, Deborah Overton Herndon of Pawleys Island; two sons, Jason Herndon (Jennifer) of Charleston and Justin Herndon of Pawleys Island; and a brother, Nolan Herndon, Jr. (Sue) of Columbia.
Funeral services will be at two o'clock on Saturday afternoon, September 24, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Georgetown. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Ted A. Sherrill. Burial will follow at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home on Friday evening, September 23, 2011, from six until eight o'clock.
