Pawley's Island: James Bunyan Latta, 91, died Monday, September 6, 2004, at Summerville Medical Center in Summerville. Mr. Latta was born in Columbia on March 12, 1913, a son of the late Lawrence F. Latta and Alice Arrah Latta. He moved to Michigan as a child and graduated from high school there. He married the late Gertrude Van Dyke Latta on December 20, 1936. Mr. & Mrs. Latta moved to S. C. in 1939 and then to Pawley's Island in 1942. He was employed as a millwright at International Paper Company and later traveled for the Company as a cost analyst. Mr. Latta retired in 1979. Mr. Latta was an active member of Pawley's Island Presbyterian Church. He served as Church treasurer for thirty years, taught Sunday school, and was also a Deacon and Elder. Surviving are: a son, Ronald J. Latta and his wife Donna of Tega Cay; two daughters, Janet L. Duke and her husband Allen of New Zion and Kay L. Kornahrens and her husband Ray of Ladson; a sister, Leona L. McCrery of Independence, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon, September 9, 2004, at two o'clock in Pawley's Island Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Frank S. Holsclaw.
