Obituary

Georgetown: James Madison "Walter" Cooper, 95, husband of the late Mary High Cooper, died Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at his home. Mr. Cooper was born in Georgetown on October 25, 1912, the son of the late Nelson and Charlotte Cooper. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he held a record of over fifty years of perfect attendance. Mr. Cooper was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class of the church. He owned and operated James M. Cooper Construction Company for many years and also developed Green Acres Mobile Home Park. Mr. Cooper was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was the great-great grandson of a Confederate soldier, Solomon B. Cooper. Mr. Cooper was also preceded in death by: his second wife, Eloise Baxley Cooper. Surviving are: six sons, James Milton Cooper, Walter David Cooper, Paul Lynwood Cooper, Otis Daniel Cooper, and Terry Samuel Cooper, all of Georgetown and John Horace Cooper of Ravenel; sixteen grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be eleven o'clock Friday morning, November 9, 2007, in First Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Ted A. Sherrill. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
