Georgetown:
James Mastromichalis, 81, died Monday, June 20, 2005, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Mastromichalis was born May the 23 1924 in Weirton West Virginia. He was active in high school sports and the Greek Orthodox Church. After graduation from Weirton High School, he enlisted in the United States Army Signal Corps on December the eight 1942. After completion of basic and advance training, Mr. Mastromichalis was shipped out to the China, Burma, and India Theater of operations. He held the position of message center chief on the staff of Vice-Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten. After his discharge from active duty in 1946, Mr. Mastromichalis opened a restaurant in Washington D. C., which he operated until 1960. He then moved to Georgetown and opened the Georgetonian restaurant, until he retired in 1983. Mr. Mastromichalis met his future wife Issavella Pittson in 1948 in Washington D.C., while she was vacationing from her home in Saint Johns, New Brunswick, Canada. They married in April of 1949. His interests were reading, classical music and history. Mr. Mastromichalis was a member of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Myrtle Beach, the Disabled American Veterans, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6444.
Mr. Mastromichalis was predeceased by: his parents, Androniki and Michael Mastromichalis; brother Hippocrates; and sister Stella. His family originated from the Island of Halki near Rhodes in the Aegean Sea.
Surviving in addition to his wife of Georgetown are; two sons, Michael Mastromichalis of Charlotte, N. C. and George Mastromichalis of Savannah, Ga.; five grandchildren; and a great grandchild.
Funeral services will be one-thirty Friday afternoon, June 24, 2005, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
