Obituary

Greenville: James Wyatt Mills, age 87, died Monday, June 9, 2008 in Greenville, South Carolina. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 13, 2008 at 10:30 am at the Wayne United Methodist Church in Georgetown, SC, with internment to follow at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. Mr. Mills was born in Thomas County Georgia, son of the late Louie and Jessie Wyatt Mills. He married Frances Rogers Mills on March 8, 1947 and shared his life with her for 61 years. He served his country with distinction during World War II as a Captain in the 8th Air Force Engineering Corp stationed in the Pacific Realm. He worked as a farmer and businessman until 1951 when he joined International Paper from which he retired in 1983 after 32 years. Mr. Mills traveled extensively throughout the United States during his career and then later for pleasure in retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Always a farmer at heart, he also had a tremendous appreciation for the land and great affection for animals. He was a member of Wayne United Methodist Church, the Pine Tree Club, Wayne Church Men's Club, VFW and Lions Club. Surviving in addition to his wife, Frances, are a son, Roger Wyatt Mills and his fiancé, Kelly Golden of Germantown, Tennessee, sons and daughter-in-laws, John Terrell and his wife, Pam Montgomery Mills, and James Louie and his wife, Kathryn Fraser Mills, and a daughter and son-in-law, Amanda Mills and James Rush Wilson III, all of Greenville, SC. In addition, Mr. Mills is survived by six grandchildren, a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Mills and her husband Randall Herndon of Macon, Georgia and numerous nieces and nephews.
