Georgetown:
James Dewitt Roberts, Sr., 75, died Monday, December 13, 2004, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Roberts was born in Andrews on January 15, 1929, a son of the late James Walter Roberts and Lola Perry Roberts. He grew up in Georgetown. Mr. Robert served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and retired as a Sergeant 1st Class after twenty years service. He also served as a police officer with the City of Georgetown Police Dept. for five years and operated his own sanitation business in Georgetown Co. from 1977 until 1992. He attended United Christian Outreach and was a former deacon and Sunday School Teacher at the Georgetown Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are: his wife, Rose M. Roberts of Georgetown; a daughter, Debra R. Baker of Georgetown; two sons, James D. Roberts, Jr. of Georgetown and Walter E. Roberts of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, George Roberts of Georgetown and David Roberts of Denver, Col.; ten sisters, Dorothy Roberts of Hemingway, Shelby Leber Knight and Peggy Goins, both of Georgetown; Pasty Bath of Andrews, Barbara Lee and Carolyn Bennett, both of Brunswick, Ga., Mary Pirt of Goose Creek, Jimmie Dale Ethridge of Alcolu, Sandra Hensley of Pamplico, and Faye Bouchard of Douglasville, Ga.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be eleven o'clock Wednesday morning, December 15, 2004, at United Christian Outreach. Officiating will be the Rev. Alan Poston and the Rev. Bill McDaniels. Burial will follow in Sampit United Methodist Cemetery.
Mr. Roberts was predeceased by a sister, Jacqueline Adams.
