Surfside Beach:
James Francis Sullivan, Jr., 83, died Sunday, August 1, 2004, at Winyah Convalescent Center in Georgetown.
Mr. Sullivan was born in Queens, N.Y. on November 5, 1920, a son of the late James Francis Sullivan and Caroline Homeyer Sullivan. He graduated from Brooklyn Academy and operated a tug boat for the U.S. Coast Guard in N.Y. during World War II. Mr. Sullivan retired from the Federal Housing Administration. He lived on his boat in N.Y. for many years prior to moving to Surfside Beach in 1995. Mr. Sullivan was a Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was the widower of Lydia Cook Sullivan.
Surviving are: two sons, Dr. Michael J. Sullivan of Starkville, Miss. and Dennis R. Sullivan of Mastic Beach, N.Y.; two daughters, Karen Sullivan of Carolina Beach, N.C. and Barbara Sullivan of Pawley's Island; a sister, Betty S. James of West Islip, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at ten o'clock Wednesday morning, August 4, 2004, at St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church in Georgetown. Officiating will be The Rev. Ronald J. Farrell. Burial will follow at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens in Georgetown.
A Wake Service will be at seven o'clock Tuesday evening, August 3, 2004, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home, followed by Visitation until nine.
