Janetta "Jan" Stong Swartz

Janetta “Jan” B. Stong Swartz, 75, of Georgetown, SC, died on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Prince George Healthcare Center.

Born October 12, 1950, in Harrisburg, PA, she was a resident of Juniata County, PA, until 2025. She was the daughter of Miles Benjamin Stong and Ruth Eleanor (Walters) Stong.

Jan was a 1968 graduate of Juniata Joint High School and later in life went back to school for nursing, receiving her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Michael David Stong; two sisters, Mary E. Worley and Alice A. Kelley; and her former husband, Glenn M. Swartz.

Smart, independent, and always moving, Jan was a constant whirlwind to all who knew her. She loved animals, and throughout her life, she had many beloved pets. A creative and busy woman, Jan’s projects spanned sewing, quilting, gardening, and drawing, and many other projects. She was the caretaker for her late son until he passed away in 2001. She also had jobs transporting special needs students and driving a school bus. Jan spent years working in healthcare as a nurse’s aide and later as an LPN. A devout Christian, Jan loved the Lord and was a dedicated churchgoer most recently worshiping at Herbert United Methodist Church in Georgetown, SC

Jan is survived by two stepsons from her marriage to Glenn: Anthony Swartz (Angie) of Overland Park, KS, and Todd Swartz (Kendra) of East Waterford, PA; six step-grandchildren: Malachi Swartz (Faith) of Gardner, KS, Gabriel Swartz (Laura) of Overland Park, KS, Josiah Swartz of Overland Park, KS, and Wyatt, Winston, and Walker Swartz of East Waterford, PA; three nephews and a niece: Phillip Kelley (Laura) of Carlisle, PA, James Kelley of Huntington, PA, Craig Rowles of Port Royal, PA, and Laura Cameron (Mike) of Georgetown, SC; six great-nieces; and one great-nephew.

At Jan’s request, there will be no memorial service. A private interment will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Nook, PA (15275 HWY 35 South, Mifflin, PA).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Perry-Juniata County Animal Rescue at 379 Sugar Run Road, Millerstown, PA 17062.
