Georgetown:
Janice Gurley Shoemaker, 64, died Monday, April 19, 2004, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Shoemaker was born in Charlotte, N. C. on August 16, 1939, a daughter of the late Benjamin James Gurley and Carrie Lee Stutts Gurley. She grew up at the Methodist Children's Home in Winston-Salem, N. C. Mrs. Shoemaker was a graduate of R. J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem and attended Horry-Georgetown Technical College. Mrs. Shoemaker a former tourism director for the Georgetown Co. Chamber of Commerce and the Days Inn in Georgetown. She was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are: her husband, C. H. "Chuck" Shoemaker of Georgetown; a son, Benny McDonald and his wife Paula of Rome, Ga.; a daughter, Jill McDonald of Georgetown; a step-son, Jeffrey C. Shoemaker of Charlotte, N. C.; two step-daughters, Kimberly Shoemaker of Charlotte, N. C. and Ellen Gotses of Fairmont, W. V.; a brother, David Gurley and his wife Jane of Winston-Salem, N. C.; four grandchildren; Timothy and Kimberly Lippert of Georgetown and Emilee and Jessica McDonald of Rome, Ga.; two step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Shoemaker was predeceased by a son, Darwin McDonald.
Memorial services will be two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, April 21, 2004, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Phillip C. Thrailkill.
The family will receive friends prior to the service Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at the Family Center of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church from one until two o'clock.
