Pawleys Island:

Janis "Jan " Lachicotte Kerr, 74, died Friday, October 4, 2022 at Tidelands Georgetown Hospital, Georgetown, South Carolina.

She was born November 11, 1947 to the late Albert Springs Lachicotte, Jr., and Irene Livingood Lachicottte of Charleston South Carolina. Jan graduated from Vallejo Senior High School in Vallejo, California and attended Winthrop College in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Kerr and her daughter Anjanette Guthrie.

Jan had many interests which included gardening and farming, and she was a passionate lover of all animals. Jan could be seen nursing a baby raccoon or caring for deer at her farm in Georgetown. No animal went unhoused and Jan adored her many cats, some of which had been feral before she rescued them.

In recent years she and her fantastic-fisherman husband, Bill, started a fishing rig-making business in Pawleys Island and many a flounder or spot tail found their way to some lucky family's table when the fishermen used a RIGS rig to catch the fish. Her upbeat and happy nature was appreciated by all her clients in the low country.

Loved by many, friends would stop by her house to visit and laugh with her. She had a giving spirit and a boundless sense of humor.

Jan is survived by her three sisiters, Rene Lachicotte Charlson of Rochester, New York, Cathy Lachicotte Kern (Kate) of San Francisco, California and Cindy Lachicotte of Pawleys Island, South Carolina.

A memorial celebration will be scheduled for a time in the future.
