McClellanville:
Jean Beckman Smith Stroman, 89, widow of Alexander Chanler "Chan" Stroman, Jr. died Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at her residence.
Mrs. Stroman was born in McClellanville on November 5, 1927, a daughter of the late Raymond Smith and Helen Beckman Smith. She grew up in McClellanville and was a graduate of McClellanville High School and Emory University School of Nursing. Mrs. Stroman was the owner and operator of Village Variety, Laundry, and Green Houses and worked at Georgetown Memorial Hospital for a time. She was a member of New Wappetaw Presbyterian Church.
Addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Stroman was predeceased by: a son, James "Jimmy" M. Leland, Jr.
Surviving are three daughters, Patricia L. McClellan (Larry), Elizabeth Stroman, and Martha Douglass (Andy), all of McClellanville; a son, Allston Leland (Gerilyn) of McClellanville; a brother, Raymond Smith (Frances) of Greenville; two sisters, Jeanette Graham and Essie Wilson, both of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
A special thanks to her caregivers, Barbara, Karanne, Susan, Dr. Wilson, and Dr. Owens.
Memorial services will be eleven o'clock Saturday morning, October 14, 2017, at New Wappetaw Presbyterian Cemetery. Inurnment will follow under the direction of the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home.
