Murrells Inlet:

Jeff H. Weaver

April 3, 1955 - December 9, 2022

To know him was to love him. Jeff's friends from all walks of life certainly felt that way about him.

Jeff had a good heart and a kind soul and he always looked for the best in others. Okay, he could get grumpy at times. But he was always ready to help – like the time he gave a young homeless man some clean clothes, good shoes and a bus ticket home to his family.

Many people knew Jeff through Legacy Antiques in Murrells Inlet which he managed for the past 30 years. He loved his job and frequently went in on his days off to dust, polish silver, rearrange inventory and stage furniture. He also held and worked at estate sales. In his earlier career, he ran popular nightclubs and entertainment venues in Columbia, S.C.

As hard as he worked, Jeff was also always up for a good glass of wine and a smoke. He was a regular at restaurants close to his home. He especially loved the Hot Fish Club where he joined a big group of close friends on many evenings.

Friends considered him one of the Inlet's "colorful characters" and conversations with Jeff were never boring. He was witty, smart, an avid reader and a go-to reference for old movies, history, antiques and much more.

Jeff's affection for decorating often led him to shop at the Salvation Army and estate sales where he had a knack for spotting hidden treasures.

Jeff was born in Kansas City. At age 12, he and his family moved to South Carolina where he lived the rest of his life.

Jeff died peacefully after a long battle with cancer. During his final journey, his friends, brother Ben and sister Roxanne made sure he knew how much he was loved.

A special thanks to the caregivers at Blue Ridge in Georgetown and Tidelands Community Hospice who cared for him in his final months.

Jeff was preceded in death by his life partner John Johnson whom he lovingly cared for throughout John's illness; and his parents Betty and Hascal Weaver.

He is survived by his brother Ben Weaver (Nann) of Rancho Mirage, California; his sister Roxanne Szumilas (Ron) of Houston, Texas; his niece Clare Radford of Houston, Texas; and nephews Brian Radford (Jamie) of Simpsonville, S.C.; and Benjamin Weaver (Cari) of Austin, Texas.

Jeff also leaves a wonderful family of friends who loved him dearly.

A final toast to Jeff. A great friend. A great brother. A great guy. We will miss him forever.
